Your Child Will Be Known At Golden Gate American School With a focus on knowledge, character and belonging, and with an understanding of learning styles, talents and abilities our dedicated faculty celebrate each student’s individual journey.

Middle Years Programme

The MYP comprises eight subject groups:

  1. Language Acquisition
  2. Language and Literature
  3. Individuals and societies
  4. Sciences
  5. Mathematics
  6. Arts
  7. Physical and health education
  8. Design

Students taking part in the MYP are expected to complete 50 hours of learning in each subject in Grades 6 to 8, and 70 hours of education in Grades 9 and 10.

From the fourth year of the programme, students can choose to take lessons in six of the eight subject groups, dropping PE and choosing between Arts and Design.

MYP students in Grade 10 are required to complete a long-term Personal Project, where they

  1. Decide what they want to learn about
  2. Identify what they already know
  3. Discover what they will need to know to complete the project
  4. Create a proposal or criteria for completing it

We are proud to be a candidate school for MYP International Baccalaureate world school for grade six to ten.

GGAS IB MYP students students (Grade 6-10) extend their learning from IB PYP into intentionally planned inquiry based MYP units. Students are supported as they transition to their middle years with a homeroom teacher for social-emotional learning as they move into subject specific classes. Students have Mathematics and English Language Arts five days per week. Individuals and Societies (Social Studies), Science, Design (Applied Design and Skills Technology), English Language Acquisition (Core English), Physical Health Education and Arts are taken three periods per week. The Middle Year Programme (MYP) is for children from 11 to 16 years old and follows the IB Curriculum. This stage prepares children for IB DP, immersing them in an English, Khmer and Chinese speaking environment and developing confidence and familiarity to help them succeed at school.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The Middle Year Programme is fully conducted in English by experienced and professional teachers who are native English speaking teachers. To ensure the children succeed, the teachers are supported by Khmer-speaking teaching assistants. The teachers aim to create an environment where each child feels confident and comfortable taking risks, both with language and interacting with others.

Children are exposed to all aspects of the English language through visual, auditory, activities, including trips, sport, experiments, individual/ group and search time.
